Mike Watts is a writer from Hull.

Mood, melancholy, dragging days, bottles of beer, the click of pistachio nutshells hitting the table: fear, sadness, the guts on spin and tumble, while the rain falls, the hours stack and the streets are empty. This is one side of the story in UNIVERSAL CREDIT
But bolts of light also pierce the writing. We accompany the poet to the dazzling sunshine of Florida, where he finds himself Hull pale, slapped, set upon, eager for shade, for mercy, the cool of a bottle. And in Six Lines, the writing is tender and proud, the poet describing his granddaughter as:
