CROOKED WALK by Jared Carnie
The poetry pamphlet, Crooked Walk is a collection of poems all based in Sheffield, where I moved in 2014 after living in the Outer Hebrides. The title refers to both the areas of Sheffield where I have lived (Crookes/Walkley) and also the fact that no matter which direction you walk in Sheffield, you are always walking uphill. “You know when you see a moth
manic and scattered and charging their soft head into the plastic of the bulb over and over? And when it’s 4am and only one small light remains and the desperate moth scrambles from one side to the other trying to get closer closer closer but never really close enough? It was a bit like that. That’s why I don’t drink anymore.” |
