THE OBLIVIOUS WHALE deals with landscape, nature, the seasons and the human condition. Graham Hamilton’s writing style is in turn sombre, lyrical and playful. There’s a strong sense of immediacy in place and relationship in some of the poems. 

“It’s flat here
long, hot and flat.
The sky is spread, heavy,
like thick butter on a doorstep.

Thunderflies materialise
on my shirt as I cycle onwards east,
pushing past power lines that swoop like swallows
over the still corn.”
